Tooth Extraction

Extraction is generally a last-resort procedure to remove teeth that can't be saved any other way. When a tooth extraction becomes a necessary procedure, it's critical for you to receive treatment as soon as possible.

We know that the prospect of having a tooth removed can be difficult to face. But at Conestee Family Dental, you can rest assured that our team has extensive experience with tooth extraction and will handle your treatment with the utmost care, warmth, and compassion.

Reasons We Might Extract a Tooth

At our Greenville dental practice, our team emphasizes the importance of preventive dentistry to avoid problems and keep your teeth healthy. But situations can still occur that make tooth extraction necessary:

  • Cracks or fractures of a tooth below the gum line
  • A severe abscess that cannot be treated with a root canal
  • Placement of full or partial denture placement
  • Alignment issues or in preparation for orthodontic treatment
  • Impacted wisdom teeth

We are committed to providing a warm and friendly environment, and our professional team will go out of their way to treat you with kindness and respect for your concerns. Our priority is to do everything necessary to help you remain calm and comfortable during the procedure.

We Put Your Comfort First!

A dental extraction is not a complicated process, but we understand that you might need a little extra help to relax. At Conestee Family Dental, your comfort comes first, so we are pleased to offer two types of sedation.

You have probably heard nitrous oxide referred to as laughing gas. The truth is that you won’t start laughing hysterically, but you will feel very calm and relaxed as activity around you fades into the background. The effects of nitrous disappear as soon as we stop administering it, so you will be able to go about your usual routine after you leave our office.

Oral sedation is another option, and if you choose this route, our doctors will prescribe a calming medication. Take the sedative about an hour before your appointment, and you will arrive at our office feeling calm, relaxed, and a little drowsy. Just remember that with oral sedation, you will need a driver to get you to and from your appointment safely.

Removing Impacted Wisdom Teeth

Another issue that requires an extraction is impacted wisdom teeth. Wisdom teeth usually erupt during the late teens and early twenties when they make contact with surrounding teeth. This process may cause the wisdom tooth to partially erupt or remain impacted under the surface.

A partially erupted wisdom tooth is a hotspot for bacteria because food can get trapped around the gum line. Food particles that remain in the mouth can lead to periodontal disease and tooth decay.

We want you to feel comfortable with what is happening, so we will not proceed with treatment until we know that you understand what the problem is and why extraction is necessary.
